Day 97 - Saturday, March 9 - A Day at the Beach

Today's weather - Damp, cloudy, breezy, high temperature 62 degrees. Not a day for beach activities but...we went anyway.

Earlier in the week we thought the weather was going to be reasonably nice today. We were wrong. Kathy wanted to do some bird watching at one of the sanctuaries along the coast. We waited until our last day here to go. Also, I wanted to drive along some of the Intercoastal waterway that connects Beaumont to the Gulf. In particular I wanted to see the construction site for the $13 billion, 2,842 acre Port Arthur LNG project. Construction of Phase I is currently underway.

At Sea Rim Park. Heading out towards the beach.

Looking back from the boardwalk to where our car is parked. Note the log in the water on the far right, up very near the shore.
When we got out of the car a young woman said, "Look at the alligator." I took the photo below from where the guy near the front of our car is standing.

This alligator was at least 10' from nose to tail. There was a sign in the parking lot warning people not to throw toys in the water for their dogs to fetch.

We didn't walk out to the beach from this parking area.

Next to the car parking area was a nice little RV park. It looked like both water and electricity were available. I didn't see any sewer hoses.

We drove to the other end of the park and drove out on the beach. Kathy had to get out and get her feet wet. I stayed in the car, from where I took the next 2 photos.

We should have driven out closer to this lifting device (crane?) at Sabine Pass. It is huge. I think ships pass under it. I found a few pictures of it online but nothing about who made it, who owns it or what it is used for.

We stopped for a late lunch at Dyria Taqueria in Port Arthur.
Kathy had enchiladas and I had Honduran pork tamales. Both were very good. Kathy liked the salsa so much that I feared that I might have to stop her from licking out the bowls 😀. I have no idea what the difference is between Mexican and Honduran tamales, although I think these are the first tamales I've had that contained some sliced potatoes as part of the filling.

The LNG project had heavy equipment galore. Just one area had 11 crawler cranes within 20 acres. Five of them were set up for pile driving. One was actually driving piles around on a Saturday.

All in all it was a good day.

God is good. I pray that He blesses you and yours. He has blessed me.
