We stayed home for most of the morning.
I like tamales. One of the highly rated "restaurants" here is a food truck named Mom's Tamales. After some searching we thought we would be able to find it on the town square. It wasn't there.
Our next choice was Fossati's Delicatessen, also near the town square. They advertise themselves as the oldest deli in Texas. It was established in 1882 and is still owned and operated by the same family.
We both had soup and half a sandwich. Kathy's soup was a roasted tomato soup and her sandwich was a Muffaletta Poorboy. My soup was cheese jalapeno and my sandwich was an Italian Poorboy. Both the food and service were good. Price was also good, $10.45 for each of our entrees.
Below is a photo looking back towards the town square from in front of Fossati's.
There are a lot of fine old homes (mansions) in Victoria. The city has set up a driving route that lets you drive past 86 "points of interest" in a 14 block by 18 block area. After lunch we drove the route. It was interesting. We have a brochure that briefly discusses each of the points of interest, but you don't have time to read it while driving down city streets. It will be something to look at some lazy day.
One of the reasons for stopping in Victoria is because I want to check out the Museum of the Coastal Bend. It was our next stop. Once we got to it we learned that it is closed on Mondays. That is now on tomorrows "things to do" list.
On our way back home we saw this guy carrying what looked like a case of wine bottles, down the street. You could see all the bottles from the front. It looked heavy and uncomfortable. Note the sign on the building behind him. Sadly the place is only open Thursday, Friday & Saturday so it won't be open while we are here.
Back home I did a 50 minute, 4.8 mile bike ride around Riverside Park, where we are staying. It is a NICE park. At least half of the ride was on "city" streets in the park while the remainder was on walk/bike paths in the park. Its the first time I've done any riding on city streets. There wasn't much traffic and what there was moved slow (30 mph speed limit).
It was very foggy when I got up this morning. It stayed humid all day. The high temperature was 82. There was a nice breeze, maybe 10 mph, not like the 20+mph breezes in Harlingen. It was warm but not to uncomfortable. We turned the AC on after arriving yesterday and have kept it running, mostly to reduce the humidity.
There were 14 deer out near us tonight.
God is good. I pray that he blesses you and yours. He has blessed me.
