Day 98 - Sunday, March 10 - Travel, Gulf Coast RV in Beaumont, TX to Lakeside RV in Livingston, LA

It was a nice morning in Beaumont. With the time change we were a little slow getting set up to leave. We left the park a few minutes after 11AM. There was quite a bit of construction and a lot of traffic on I10. About 40 miles from Baton Rouge Google warned us of a huge tie up on the west side of Baton Rouge. We took the recommended detour which added about 15 miles and a half hour to our travel distance and time.

We travelled 230 miles today. We stopped along the way for fuel, $3.25/gal with a credit card.

Below are some photos from todays drive. There are waterways and lakes everywhere.

At the end of the bridge over part of the lake above was a nice park area.

I doubt that you will be able to see any detail in the image below but its the best i could find/pirate to give you an idea of the Atchafalaya Basin. Near the top of the image the Mississippi River splits and part of the water goes down the Atchafalaya River. Some time ago there was a concern that the Atchafalaya was going to become the primary river so some type of man made control system was built to limit the amount of water diverted so that no more than 30% of the Mississippi could go into the Atchafalaya. (That would be an interesting thing to see on some future trip.)

Below are photos of the Basin.

.
We stopped at the Atchafalaya Rest Area for lunch. The rest area has a lot of information on the Basin.
Just another waterway.

Several hundred acres of solar panels was something of a surprise.

What can I say, I'm was an engineer, structures, including bridges, intrigue me. This railroad trestle started rising up way back down the road, since trains are limited to how steep a slope they can efficiently climb. The road stayed down low.

The trestle was still climbing but the road was climbing much faster.

Finally the bridge over the waterway. Note that the eastbound lanes are on one side of the rail bridge while the west bound are on the other side. Further exploration of how this was achieved would have been fun, but finding a place to pull over, park, unhook the car, etc. was to much of a bother.
The waterway below us.

Parked at Lakeside RV Park in Livingston, LA. We arrived about 5:30PM.
Taking a walk.
Around part of the small lake.

Tonight's low is forecast to be 50, a little better than last nights low of 47 in Beaumont.

God is good. I pray that He blesses you and yours. He has blessed me.
