Jan 9th - Stayed In

Today we never left the RV Park.

Below is one of the photos I took from Keys View in Joshua Tree National Park. Keys View is at elevation 5,185'. The San Andreas fault runs across the flatland portion of the photo. Palm Springs is the city in the background. 11,500-foot San Gorgonio Mountain is the tallest of the mountains that you see.

Today I washed the RV and the CRV while Kathy did more laundry and cooked. We did walk up to the pool and spent some time in it this afternoon. Kathy also gets into the hot mineral spa but it is WAY to hot for me. I tried one of the cold water mineral spas. I walked in up past my waist and stood there for a short while. In far less than 5 minutes my legs started aching. I got out and went back into the pool. Back in the warm pool my legs felt almost like they were burning. I've not seen anyone get in one of the cold water spas while we have been here.

This morning I was doing some net surfing trying to find a place where we could fill up with propane and I watched a propane truck pull in and started filling the tanks on a trailer down at the other end of the parking lot. I hot footed it down there and asked if he would fill ours when he was done. He came down and put 22 gallons in our 38 gallon tank. We still had a fair amount but we want the tank to be close to full when we get to Drew's in Oakland. For those of you who heat with propane, be glad you are not paying California RV park prices. The 22 gallons cost us $94.80.

Yesterday I mentioned the warnings about high winds but I forgot to mention that for the first time we saw lots of windmills turning. Prior to this we never saw more than 2 in 10 turning. Yesterday I think more than 9 in 10 were turning.

We have seen a LOT of houses while driving around. Because of the hills you see a lot of roofs. To date we have seen one house with solar panels. Others might have had them but they must have been camouflaged. If solar panels are not cost effective out here I can't imagine that they are cost effective anywhere.

About the sun. The high was in the mid 70's again today. Sunny and no wind. Our RV is parked pretty much east/west. The drivers side is in the shade and the passenger side is in the sun. I was wearing a pair of shorts, no shirt, while washing the RV. When I was on the sun side it was pleasantly warm. While on the shady side it was almost unpleasantly cool. It is amazing what a difference the sun makes.
