This morning we drove around the area some. Below are photos of camping areas out on Plomosa Road. The photos are taken of areas 5-9 miles away from Quartzsite. You can actually stay out in this area, and some other ones, for free. No services, you just drive out in the desert and part. (Actually there are "hosts" for the areas and you are supposed to check in with the hosts.) These are the areas where you have to move every 14 days.
The first two photos just show the view from an area where there are no RV's right now.
The white dots you might be able to see in the distance, are RV's parked out in the desert.
This is a neighborhood of RV's. I think that during the last half of Jan and first half of Feb, many groups meet here, and park out in the desert.
We spent a couple of hours this morning and another hour this afternoon just walking around looking at "stuff". There is a lot of "stuff" considering that the real rush doesn't hit for two more weeks. That is when the population of this area will swell to nearly one million people. I can't even begin to imagine how crowded it will be then. I think it would be fun to be here a couple of days towards the end of next week but I would want to get out of town before the real crowds hit. People just keep rolling in to the campground we are at. It will probably be sold out by the weekend.
One nice aspect is that if you get tired of looking at stuff they provide Adult Day Care at Beer Belly's. I wonder how this travelling bar gets a license?
Tomorrow we plan on moving to Desert Hot Springs, CA.
By the way, yesterday's high was 78 and today's was 74. Last nights low was 40. Bright sunshine all day.
Good night to all and may God bless you and yours.
