Jan 3rd - Titan Missile Museum

My 7:30 dental appointment turned out to be a waste of time. My tooth/gum felt much better this morning but I knew I would have to pay for the appointment whether I went or not. I have a "scrape" on my gum but it appears to be healing satisfactorily. No action needed. Good to know. I have a nice X-ray photo of my lower, back, left two teeth, for my scrapbook. It was a 35 minute drive to the dentist and we were back home by 8:45.

I went to the Titan Missile Museum south of Tucson this morning. What an interesting place. I took the one hour tour and it was good. I wonder if I should have taken the 5 hour. We built 54 of these installations, 18 in each of three states, in less than 3 years, less time that Obama has already been "studying" the TransCanada pipeline. These missiles, with a 9 megaton warhead, could launch 58 seconds after the command to launch was received. One Titan warhead contained more explosive power than all the bombs dropped during WWII, including the nukes dropped on Japan. Our tour guide was a GE retiree who had worked on the warheads electronics package. One of the guy's in the "classroom" had been one of the Commanders in the silo, he had one of the two keys it took to launch. The 53 other installations have now been destroyed. Most of our current nuclear deterrent force is made up of Minuteman III missiles.

We went to lunch at Omar's Hi-Way Chef restaurant. It is at a truck stop about 5 miles from where we are staying. We have driven by it lots of time while we have been here and I just had to give it a try. I had one of their Mexican dishes and Kathy has liver and onions. Both were great. It isn't fancy but the food was great.

The weather was nice today, 79 for a high. The wind finally died down today, making in pretty warm, but not to warm for a nice, long nap this afternoon.

Tomorrow we head for Quartzsite, AZ.

Goodnight to all and may God bless you and yours.
