Day 4 - Thursday, December 7th - Exploring Iuka, MS

December 7th, 1941 a "date which will live in infamy". The Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor killed over 2,400 Americans. I wonder how many of our youth have even heard about Pearl Harbor, or that 292,000 Americans lost their lives in combat during WWII.

It was a cool night again, colder than was forecast. The temperature was 30 degrees when I got up. Tonights low is supposed to be in the 40's.

Kathy drove the coach next door to Lakeshore and had it inside by 7:30. They started on it right away. We hung around in their waiting room for several hours and then headed into Iuka to look around. Its a nice little town. It was interesting to see a mural commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, with Generals from both sides.

The above photos cover most of downtown Iuka.

Our next stop was for lunch at a local buffet. It was OK. Then we went for a drive to see some of what lay just outside of town. We saw a sign for Woodall Mountain, it is just south of Iuka. It is the highest natural point in Mississippi, 806' above sea level.

There are several antenna structures on the top of the mountain. This photo looks down the power line right of way.

The visitors log in inside a mailbox.

Then it was back down the "mountain". It was a little over a mile back to a paved road. Down the hill you can see the road after a switchback. There were enough loose stones on the road that I think I would had a difficult time had I tried to drive my 2WD GMC up the hill.

Then it was back to Lakeshore. This Renegade unit is one of the ones waiting for service.

Now thats a hitch! The sticker says, Max Gross Trlr Wt (LB) 30,000 & Max Tongue Wt (LB) 5,000.

I looked this up and found that it has a GVWR of 54,000# and a maximum trailer capacity of 30,000#. The standard engine is a Detroit Diesel that puts out 600hp and 1,850 ft-lb of torque. The standard onboard generator is 12.5kw.

The guys finished the work on our coach and had it parked back on the pad about 3:30. Bryan found a small air leak in the front passenger side air levelling valve that he was not able to fix because he couldn't get the part for a week. He said it was okay drive the coach until we were somewhere long enough for someone to get the part and then have it installed.

Lord willing we will head south in the morning.

God is good. I pray that He blesses you as He has me.
