We left the campground in Beaumont early. At 6:50AM we were at the gate waiting for the Freightliner dealer to open at 7. We went there because we had noticed that our chassis AC was not working. The Freightliner place was only about 2 miles from the campground so it seemed like a good time to have it checked out.
In hindsight we should have dropped the motor home off at the dealer yesterday before we went sightseeing. When I talked to the service manager I told him that we had to be back on the road by 1PM and that if that didn't give him enough time to fix the AC I would have it fixed somewhere else. At 1 PM I went to the service desk and asked if it was ready. The mechanic was carrying the paperwork into the office as I stood there. When the service manager started processing the paperwork he couldn't get a price for Freon from the parts department. It took 45 minutes for the parts dept to figure out the price of Freon, and then another 20 minutes before the invoice was ready for me to pay. It was 2:10 when we finally left the parking lot.
An "O ring" had failed and allowed the Freon to leak out. It took them 3.5 hours to find the leak. The joint that was leaking was behind the stairs at the door into the motor home.
It was about a 150 mile trip to Surfside Beach today. This was the view as we came down off the bridge that leads to Surfside Beach.
We arrived about 5PM, drove into the Surfside RV park, a manager waved to us and told us to park in the only spot he had left. I asked him about paperwork and he said we didn't need to do anything, I had told him we had reservations. We got everything set up, and hooked up, and walked out onto the beach. As we were standing out there I mentioned that I didn't see the park that was supposed to be next to the RV park. We looked around a little more and began to wonder if perhaps we were in the wrong park. We got in the car and drove down the highway about 1.5 miles before we found the park, and the RV park where we had made reservations. The office was closed. After several attempts we managed to call the manager and confirm that this was the place we had reservations. We went back to the first park, packed up and moved.
Sadly this park where we made reservations is as nice as the other one. In fact, it is pretty shabby. We may look around tomorrow to see if we can find a better place, and see if we can cancel the remainder of our reservation.
Tomorrow will be a better day. May God bless you and yours.
