Feb 28th - Arrived in Crossville

I said in my last post that we would be leaving Livingston, TX last Thursday. Thursday turned out to be such a nice day that we stayed there and did a little more sightseeing. We drove over to Lake Livingston and checked it out. It is HUGE.

When we left Friday morning we had sheet ice on one of the slide toppers. The temperature was 32 when we left. It has been below that until about 2PM today, in TN.

Friday we drove 580 miles and spent the night in Jackson, TN. We drove the final 260 miles today and arrived at our place about 3 PM. We did manage to stop at Demo's in Lebanon, TN for lunch. It is one of our favorite restaurants and we were not disappointed. Our meal was excellent.

The damage from last weeks ice storm is amazing. I copied the photo below from one of the neighbors Facebook post.

Over 30,000 people lost their power. A week later 7,500 still don't have power.

Our place seems to have "weathered the storm" with no problems. Since the heat is all electric I was concerned that some of the plumbing might freeze and burst, but it all appears to be OK.

There is a lot of clean up work to be done in the area. We plan on staying here for the next several weeks so we can help with some of it, and enjoy time with family and friends.

Time for bed. May God bless you and yours.

Feb 25th - Dreary Day

The past 2 days here have been pretty dreary. It has been cool with light rain a lot of the time. At least we are above freezing. I think today's high was 41.

Yesterday we drove down to Cleveland, TX to pick up a prescription at a Walgreens. While there we had a late lunch at D&M Diner.
My hamburger was great and Kathy said so was her BBQ brisket.

Today we only got out to make a run to the grocery store. Just to dreary to get excited about doing much.

In the morning we pull out and head for TN. Tom & Mary Lou have been without power since around 5AM last Saturday. The ice that has taken down hundreds of power poles, lots of trees, etc. As of this morning there were still over 20,000 homes without power, 17,000 of them are in Cumberland County (where Tom & Mary Lou live).

Our current plan is to drive half way tomorrow, take a rest day, and finish the trip on Saturday.

May God bless you and yours.

Feb 22nd - First Baptist Church

We attended a great church service this morning at First Baptist Church in Livingston. We attended the 10:30 "contemporary" service. The music was far to "contemporary" for me but Kathy enjoyed it. Obviously many others also enjoy it because there were a lot of folks in attendance. The Lord has led us to dynamic churches to attend while visiting Crossville, TN; Summerdale, AL and now here in Livingston, TX. It is exciting to see God's hand at work in different communities.

This church decided they had outgrown there old facility in 2004 and they bought 75 acres on the outskirts of Livingston. In 2008 they held their first worship services in the new facility. The 10:30 service filled up maybe 70% of the available seating. They already have an "overflow" area into which they can divert folks if the main sanctuary gets full.

The Pastor had a great message out of Luke 5. The passage tells about Jesus going out in a boat to preach because the crowds were so great. It goes on to tell about the fishermen, who had just come in from a night of poor fishing prior to Jesus making use of one of their boats, being told by Jesus to go back out and try again. They were tired and they had not caught anything during the prime time for fishing, yet they went out again their nets were filled to overflowing. The entire message was good but I thought the best point was when the Pastor suggested that one of Simon Peter's thoughts might have been, "I wish my net was bigger". The Pastor asked us to question if our "nets" were to small. He suggested that we Christians tend to think far to small. God is capable of filling the largest "nets" we can imagine. He related his own experience with "small nets". He had set a goal, in his head, that they would baptize and average of one person every week. While he was thinking about this someone came in his office to discuss the 2 people who wanted to be baptize this morning, the person noted that after these 2 baptisms they have baptized 31 people already this year. God planted the though in his head about his "small nets".

As we were leaving the service it dawned on Kathy that a miracle had occurred, we had attended a Baptist church service where they had not taken up an offering! There was a place in the back where people could put an offering if they so desired. Basically they don't expect "guests" to put money in the offering. Harvest Community, where I attended when we lived in Lebanon, was also like that.

After church we drove around looking for a place to have lunch. Kathy finally wheeled us into Shrimp Boat Manny's.
Kathy has a shrimp and oyster combo, which she said was good. I had catfish. I was a little concerned because the menu said something about mustard in the breading but I thought I would be adventuresome and try it. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST CATFISH, MAYBE EVEN THE BEST FISH, I HAVE EVER HAD! The breading was good but the catfish was awesome. It was really juicy, and seasoned with something that made it awesome. There are several other places we want to try but I sure would not mind it if we have to go back to Manny's.

After watching the NASCAR race I had to force myself to go on a 2.8 mile walk around the campground to try and wear off some of my lunch. Walking 2.6 miles here, with the ups and downs, probably burns as much calories as walking 4 miles along the flat beach.

Temps are heading down. The high was 66 and tonights low is supposed to be 35. Colder tomorrow but then it starts warming up again.

May God bless you and yours.

Feb 21st - Pancake Breakfast

This morning I walked over to the Care Center for their pancake breakfast. For $4 you received a helping of scrambled eggs, a sausage patty, coffee, juice, and all the pancakes you could eat. You could have either plain pancakes or blueberry pancakes. The benefits were: 1. a good breakfast, 2. provide some financial support for the Care Center & 3. a nice walk, since it is a little over 0.6 miles from our site to the Care Center.

The Escapees campground in Livingston is the main one. One of the great things they do here is provide care for RV'ers who are having health issues. An area of the campground is set aside to provide services to those in need. People there can either go to the Care Center for meals, its a very short walk from the designated spots to the Care Center facility, or they can have volunteers deliver meals to their RV's. In addition volunteers provide RV cleaning and other services. There is also a handicap accessible minibus for those who need transportation.

Below are some photos of flowers in the park while I was out walking around yesterday and today.

It was quite windy yesterday afternoon and the magnolia tree lost a lot of blossoms.

You get to see some interesting "rigs" when you walk around. I didn't get close enough to check out the name tag on this truck but it sure doesn't look like something that would have enough guts to pull this 5th wheel.

This afternoon I was sitting outside reading. I was sitting in a lawn chair and had my feet up on the bench of a picnic table. Up came a friend.
She walked around a little and once she found out I wasn't going to pet her she flopped down under the table, went to sleep and started snoring. 10-15 minutes later a car returned to one of the RV's down the street and she jumped up to go check it out. All dogs in the campground are supposed to be on leashes, at all times. Kathy said she saw this one wandering around yesterday. She thinks the dog may belong to someone in a neighboring home. The dog has a collar but no tags on it.

We tried a Chinese buffet for lunch today, not so good. I'm sure we can do better tomorrow.

High temp was a cloudy 70 today. Last nights low was 62. The next several days aren't going to be as nice, but they will be FAR nicer than what folks in the frozen northland are experiencing.

May God bless you and yours.

Feb 18th - Another Nice Day

Yesterday the weather improved from Monday and it improved a lot more today. Today was one of the nicest days since we have been here. The sky was amazingly clear out over the Gulf today.

We haven't been doing a lot, just enjoying ourselves. Yesterday we dropped of some prescriptions for refills at the Walgreens in Clute, TX. We found a new place to eat lunch, Bella Roma's. I ordered the spaghetti with mushrooms and Kathy ordered a pizza. Note the rolls in the bowl between us. They brought them to us when they were fresh out of the oven. They were AWESOME!!! The spaghetti was good and Kathy said the pizza was very good (We did bring a lot of it home.)
I ate all my spaghetti. After we got home I went out and walked 2 miles along the beach.

Today's "excitement" was going over to a local dentist to have him check out a tooth that has been annoying me. He told me that he thought that it needed to be extracted but that it could wait until I got back to Missouri, since it isn't causing me big problems. We stayed at the campground the rest of the day. I took a 4 mile beach walk today. (I have to get more exercise since I'm eating so much)

We leave here Friday morning and start our trek into the frozen northland. Instead of going through Dallas/Ft.Worth we are going northeast out of Houston and we will go through Arkansas on our way home. Today I made reservations for us to stay a week at an Escapees campground in Livingston, TX. Livingston is about 75 miles northeast of Houston. (The place we stayed in Alabama was also an Escapees campground) We still plan to return to Centertown on March 3rd, no matter how cold it is.

May God bless you and yours.

Feb 20th - Surfside Beach to Livingston

As we left the Surfside/Freeport area I was again amazed at all the industry (jobs) down here. We have driven by Shintech Inc several times; it is a large facility. I looked it up on the Internet and found that it is the largest maker of PVC in North America. DOW's facilities down here absolutely dwarf the Shintech facility. There are hundreds, quite possibly over a thousand, of vehicles in what looks like DOW's construction parking lot. It looks like there is a fleet of old school busses that ferry workers to the construction site. On top of that, even with all these chemical and refinery facilities there are no chemical odors, nor smog. 40 years ago the refineries around the Beaumont, Port Arthur area were pretty stinky.

We saw a “Help Wanted” sign at one of the Buckees stores, they are similar to a Casey's. The lowest starting salary was $11/hour. Several of the jobs posted started at $12/hour. We wouldn’t have to worry about the government raising the minimum wage if it would just get out of the way and quit strangling existing business preventing the formation of new business because of all the regulation. More jobs equal higher pay for people who want to work and who are willing to learn a skill.

35 miles south of Houston, at 10AM, dash thermometer said 71. Now, at 2:30PM in the campground it is 65 degrees. Those of you up north probably think I’m nuts when I tell you that 65 feels cold because it is cloudy and windy. We will think we are going to freeze to death when the overnight low drops to 31 degrees Monday night.

May God bless you and yours.

Feb 16th - Alone Again

Everyone has left for home and the great weather has turned for the worse, although not nearly as bad as those north of us are enduring.

We took Kelsey and Lydia to the airport this morning. They should be home by now. Kelsey texted when they were within 30 minutes of Centertown and said all was going well. Doug and Anthony came for awhile and then they headed out about 3PM.

We will miss all our sweeties.

Lydia dancing at the wedding reception.
Doug & Lydia dancing.

Lunch at Pier 30 yesterday. Most of the Towers clan. Tom & Mary Lou left early so they weren't in attendance.

When we got back from Houston we took a short walk along the beach.

It was 70 degrees on our way back from the airport in Houston. It is 43 here now, and a couple of degrees lower in Houston. The wind is blowing enough to make the motor home sway gently. We went out again about 2 PM and the surf is the highest we have seen by far.

May God bless you and yours.

Feb 15th AM -- The Wedding is Over

The weather was beautiful yesterday. I went out in the morning to walk on the beach and took a light jacket with me. By the time I got the 50 yards to the beach I hung the jacket on a post and continued my 3.6 mile walk in jeans and a tee shirt.

Later in the morning Doug, Kathy, Lydia & I went to the jetty/pier/playground. Doug is climbing up to the upper level in the photo below. He had already boosted Lydia up there.

She had to ride down the slide with Grandpa Doug. They went down it a lot of times. (Anthony spent most of the day doing the hair of all the ladies in the wedding party.)

I thought it was probably a half mile long but it is only 0.3 miles long. This is out at the end of it. We were trying to get Lydia to smile. She put her hands over her mouth so that we couldn't see her smile.

Looking back down the jetty toward the mainland.

We had hoped to see some dolphins in the canal but all we saw were diving ducks.

The dredging operation we saw last week is continuing. It looks to me like it probably never stops.

The beach wedding went well. Lydia and Kayla were the flower girls. Lydia came back to the motor home with us around 6:30PM. We rested some and Kathy gave Lydia a shower and dressed her in pajamas. About 8 Doug & Anthony showed up and said Kelsey sent them to get Lydia so that Lydia could dance with her. I guess Lydia ended up dancing with everyone still at the reception. She got back around 9.
There are supposed to be some dolphins playing in the surf this morning. Kathy, Kelsey & Lydia went out to walk along the beach, down to the Towers beach house and see what was going on down there. Hopefully they will get to see them. I will head down there in a few minutes.

Lydia and Kelsey fly back to Kansas City early tomorrow (Monday) morning. I think Doug and Anthony are staying overnight in Houston Monday night and then heading back to Indy on Tuesday. We plan on staying here for a few more days and leaving next Saturday. The current plan is to arrive back in Centertown on March 3rd.

May God bless you and yours.

Feb 13th - Safe Arrivals

I think everyone on the Towers side has now arrived safely in Surfside Beach. We picked up Kelsey & Lydia yesterday morning at the airport in Houston. It took us longer to drive the 85 miles to the airport than it did for them to fly from Kansas City. We left the RV park at 6:00AM and they took off at 6:25AM. We arrived at the airport at the same time, 8:25AM. Traffic in Houston is almost unbelievable.

This was on the north side of the city. Our lanes had cleared up but the southbound lanes looked like what we had to drive through to get into Houston. Mile after mile of stacked up vehicles.

Lydia wanted to go out and fly her kite but after Kathy got it up in the air Lydia found more interesting things to occupy her time.

We didn't do much yesterday after the drive to the airport. We walked down the beach to the beach house being rented for the Towers family & friends, and spent time visiting.

Kelsey went out with the girls and checked out Houston yesterday afternoon and evening. Sounds like they had a good time.

Doug and Anthony arrived mid-morning, after leaving Indy around 3PM yesterday and driving all night to get here. Lydia sure was happy to see her Grandpas Doug & Anthony. They are staying at the beach house. Tom came down and visited for awhile. Other than that I haven't done much today. Kelsey spent several hours helping with wedding decorations. Most are over at the wedding rehearsal now.

Tonight there is supposed to be a BBQ supper at the Williams beach house. They have piled up a big pile of driftwood for a bonfire after supper but it is pretty windy so I'm not sure if they will have it.

It is supposed to be sunny and in the high 60's tomorrow and Sunday. The sun is so bright here that sunny and low 60's means that shorts and tee shirts are all that you need to wear outside.

May God bless you and yours.

Feb 10th - Galveston

This morning, after some housekeeping chores around the motor home, we headed over to Freeport to check out a fish market. While Kathy checked out the fish market I walked across the street to this HUGE old time hardware store. I could probably spend 4 hours in it, just looking at all the things they sell. Kathy was impressed by the fish market but didn't buy anything today.

After that we headed for Galveston, about 40 miles east of us. I am amazed at all the houses down here, many of them appear to be used only part of the year. There is mile after mile of house like those in the photo below.

We wished we knew more about these little buildings. They are probably only about 10'x12'. There did not appear to be any ladders or stairs to get up to the floors.

In Galveston we toured the Gresham House, more commonly known as the Bishop's Palace. The Gresham's built this place around 1890, it cost $250,000 then, about $6 million in today's dollars.

The top floor, and quite a few of the rooms on other levels, were not open to the public, but we still had a good time exploring the rest of the place. Below are photos of just 2 of the many rooms.

We took this photo on the way back. When you want to go fishing here you drive out on the sand, back up to within 10-15' of the water, get out your gear and start fishing.

It was cooler here today but it was still shorts and tee shirt weather.

May God bless you and yours.

Feb 9th PM - 81 TODAY!

Today's high was a sunny 81 degrees. Temperatures have been near perfect the past couple of days. We have not run either our heat pumps or AC units, but that may change. Tomorrow's high is supposed to be 69 and the high will only be 60 on Thursday & Friday.

After writing the post this morning I went back out on the beach and walked 3 miles. There is not much in Surfside Beach, but there is a lot within 15 miles of here. We drove over to an H-E-B grocery store in Clute, TX to do some grocery shopping. Kathy said the prices were great but she thought that she might not be over the sticker shock from the high grocery prices in Alabama.

We had lunch at Asiel's, which was just down the street from the grocery. Kathy had a blackened fish taco which she said was the best one she had ever had. I had a cup of chili and a chili dog. The chili was great but the chili dog was mediocre. It could have been a great chili dog if they had spent a dime more on the hot dog and bought a good hot dog. Both meals camp with a mixture of onion rings and French fries.

After unloading groceries I did another beach walk, but only about a mile this time. Morrissa came down from Houston around 2:30. About 4PM her future father-in-law, grandfather-in-law & grandmother-in-law arrived at the beach house they are renting. It is about a quarter mile west of the RV park. We went over and helped them unload their vehicles. All the homes near the Gulf are up on "stilts", so the main floor is at least 10' above the ground. We made lots of trips up and down the stairs/ramp.

Across the street from the RV park is a "Crabbing Pier". On our way back from the beach house we walked out on it. It is similar to a 100' long dock over a swampy area. The pools of water looked like they were 12-24" deep. It appears that you tie your bait (maybe a chicken neck) on a string and hang it over the side of the dock. When crabs come over near the bait you dip them out with a net. The water was very clear so it would be easy to see them. Apparently the crabs were all full when we were out there. There were some chicken necks still hanging in the water but we saw no crabs.

Only about 61 hours before we pick up our sweeties at the airport! We can hardly wait.

May God bless you and yours.

Feb 9th AM - Another Beautiful Day

Yesterday, Sunday, was another beautiful day here.

I took a 3.7 mile walk along the beach wearing jeans, a tee shirt, and a short sleeve shirt. When I got back I exchanged the jeans for shorts and took off the short sleeve shirt.

During my walk back to the campground I saw a couple of kids out in the shallow (waves up to their waists) water. Late in the afternoon my curiosity got the best of me and I waded into the surf. The water is cold!

There were lots of kite flyers out on the beach during the afternoon, many of them clustered on the beach right out in front of the campground.

I visited with several people at the campground. The people next to us are in their mid-late 50's. He grew up in South Dakota and she grew up in Louisiana. He has been all over the country, and even overseas, working on the instrumentation on cranes. She is a nurse but she started doing instrumentation work with him, because it pays better. He told me that he is working at a construction project that will take 4-5 years to complete. He said that they are having problems hiring enough workers.

Another couple are from Washington, MO, maybe 30 miles from St. Louis. They are only going to be here for a few more days, but they aren't going back to MO until it warms up.

I went out on the beach this morning to see if I could see the sun rise but it was so foggy that the sunrise was totally hidden.

I hope everyone has/had a great day. May God bless you and yours.

Feb 6th - AWESOME DAY!

It was an absolutely gorgeous day here today. I'm not sure how it could have been nicer. (yesterday was a little trying, so thank you Lord for such a nice day today).

After breakfast we went for a mile long walk along the beach.
We walked out to the street and walked back on the street. It was a little less pleasant <GRIN>.

We went to a seafood restaurant for lunch. I had fish. It was good, less greasy than Long John Silvers, and a lot more expensive. Kathy had shrimp, scallops, oysters which she said was good.

After lunch we drove around a little and found the jetty and a nice little park.

We walked out to the end of the jetty, it had to extend a half mile out into the Gulf. There were fishermen spread out along the entire length, although not to many clear on here on the end.
 Looking back at the shoreline.
There was a dredge set up working along the channel. Kathy spotted this dolphin and managed to get a photo of it one of the times it surfaced. I couldn't believe that she manage to get a photo of it. It appeared to be just checking things out along the dredge equipment.
There are two kids out in the Gulf in the photo below. They are off to the right, but you can hardly see them. NOAA reports that the Gulf water temperature here is 56 degrees. I don't know where they take the measurements but I suspect the shallow water at the beach was warmer, but even a 70 degree water temperature is cool for swimming.

After the jetty walk it was back to the campground. We talked some to a guy staying here. He and his wife are from Washington, MO. They have been here since the first of the year. They plan on staying until the end of April.  He is a fisherman, which I guess is the main draw of this area, along with the warmer weather.

All the sun and walking just wore me out, I had to take a 90 minute nap in the afternoon <grin>. Kathy was tough and went for another walk along the beach.

It is difficult for us to relate to the temperatures here. 63 degrees was the highest temperature we noticed today. During our morning beach walk I wore jeans and a short sleeve shirt, I was plenty warm. At 11 AM, when we were still in the motor home, the sun had heated up the interior to 83 degrees. After opening up all the windows and roof vents it cooled down without the need to start up the AC. I exchanged the jeans for shorts before going out for lunch and the jetty walk. I was comfortable during the afternoon.

May God bless you and yours.

Feb 6th - Long Day

Today seemed like a long, tiring day; and all I did was ride along while Kathy drove.

We left the campground in Beaumont early. At 6:50AM we were at the gate waiting for the Freightliner dealer to open at 7. We went there because we had noticed that our chassis AC was not working. The Freightliner place was only about 2 miles from the campground so it seemed like a good time to have it checked out.

In hindsight we should have dropped the motor home off at the dealer yesterday before we went sightseeing. When I talked to the service manager I told him that we had to be back on the road by 1PM and that if that didn't give him enough time to fix the AC I would have it fixed somewhere else. At 1 PM I went to the service desk and asked if it was ready. The mechanic was carrying the paperwork into the office as I stood there. When the service manager started processing the paperwork he couldn't get a price for Freon from the parts department. It took 45 minutes for the parts dept to figure out the price of Freon, and then another 20 minutes before the invoice was ready for me to pay. It was 2:10 when we finally left the parking lot.

An "O ring" had failed and allowed the Freon to leak out. It took them 3.5 hours to find the leak. The joint that was leaking was behind the stairs at the door into the motor home.

It was about a 150 mile trip to Surfside Beach today. This was the view as we came down off the bridge that leads to Surfside Beach.

We arrived about 5PM, drove into the Surfside RV park, a manager waved to us and told us to park in the only spot he had left. I asked him about paperwork and he said we didn't need to do anything, I had told him we had reservations. We got everything set up, and hooked up, and walked out onto the beach. As we were standing out there I mentioned that I didn't see the park that was supposed to be next to the RV park. We looked around a little more and began to wonder if perhaps we were in the wrong park. We got in the car and drove down the highway about 1.5 miles before we found the park, and the RV park where we had made reservations. The office was closed. After several attempts we managed to call the manager and confirm that this was the place we had reservations. We went back to the first park, packed up and moved.

Sadly this park where we made reservations is as nice as the other one. In fact, it is pretty shabby. We may look around tomorrow to see if we can find a better place, and see if we can cancel the remainder of our reservation.

Tomorrow will be a better day. May God bless you and yours.

Feb 5th - Sightseeing in Beaumont

We decided to drive around Beaumont a little today, just exploring (My cousin Lanny used to call it doing research. We technically didn't qualify as doing research because we didn't have a 6 pack with us.)

First we stopped at Elana's for lunch. I had a beef enchilada and Kathy had a shrimp enchilada. They were both really good. We were a little disappointed that they used American cheese melted on them, but they were still good.

As we were just driving around looking we saw this house.
It was on a block all by itself. As we drove around the block we noticed a sign that said tours started at the visitors center on the block in front of the house. We took a 1 hour guided tour. The tour cost us a whopping $3 each. The house is awesome! The tour went through all three floors. If you are interested you can learn more about the house at
http://mcfaddin-ward.org/about/history/

While we were waiting for the tour we were told that we could go back and take a self-guided tour of the carriage house. It was located on the block behind the house.

Yes, it really is a carriage house. One each side of the house are rooms where servants lived. There is a large door in the front. It is large enough to drive in the cars that were parked in the center of the house. A cherry old Rambler Ambassador, a big old 70's vintage Cadillac, and a carriage. The back of the house is contains horse stalls, I think there were at least 8 box stalls. The 2nd floor above the front part of the house was used as a gymnasium. The upper floor above the back of the house, above the box stalls, was framed just like a barn. Hay and grain were stored there, with chutes to dropt the hay down mangers in each of the box stalls.

Feb 4th PM - Day Trip

We took a 150 mile drive this afternoon. The campground where we are staying is on the west side of Beaumont, close to I10. We drove down through Port Arthur, out to the Gulf, then across Hwy 82, back up Hwy 27 to Sulfur and then back to the campground. The stretch along the Gulf was desolate, in a way, yet there were several hundred homes and some fairly large energy company installations. One of the most interesting things is that there was not one grocery or significant convenience store on the entire stretch along the Gulf. Some of those folks have to drive 20-30 miles to get to a store. There were a couple of small gas stations along that area. They might have stocked a few, but very few, items.

I took the photo below as were coming down off one of the many bridges in the area. Note the canal that shows up behind the truck. Also, all the area way out looks like swamp.

Sure wished I knew what this was. It was several miles from the highway and must have been some type of crane mechanism. I wouldn't be surprised if I found out that it was 200' tall. There was no obvious road leading out to it.

We had a late lunch at LeBleu's in Sulfur, LA. The food was awesome. The sign said "Fine Cajun Cuisine" and it was spot on. I ate off the buffet and Kathy ordered several things off the menu. My only complaint was that it was so good that I overate until I was miserable. (We ate over 4 hours ago and I have walked about 2 miles since I got back to the campground. I'm still almost uncomfortably full.)

There were three meat (chicken & sausage, pork & beef) dishes, kind of like stews, on the buffet that were awesome when poured over rice. (There was also fish, fried chicken, boudin, rice, mashed potatoes, 2 bean dishes, green beans, etc. on the buffet). The food was spicy, but just right. By the time I had finished my head was sweating from the spices, but it was a good sweat <grin>. Kathy had shrimp & something gumbo, boudin (sausage) rolls, some type of crawfish pie & a baked sweet potato. She said everything was good. I don't think she managed to eat half of it. We brought home a large "to go" container.  In the one end of the building they had a meat market with pretty good prices (according to Kathy) on beef. She would have bought a prime rib if she thought it would fit in our motorhome freezer.

The morning was rainy but no rain after about 11AM, but no sun either. It was an enjoyable day.

May God bless you and yours.

Feb 4th AM - Rainy

It has been drizzling rain here since about noon yesterday 2 days. Temperatures have been cool. Highs in the 50's and lows in the low 40's.

Yesterday morning I went over to the campground clubhouse to check out their breakfast. They had a couple of waffle machines set up and you could make waffles. In addition they had biscuits and gravy (the store bought gravy, not the good stuff), several different cereals, some donuts and bagels and fruit juices and coffee. A pretty good set up for a free breakfast. (but this morning I stayed in the RV and fixed myself country ham, eggs, toast, hooch & coffee; a real breakfast).

Yesterday we went to Willy Burger for lunch.

The old airstream is actually connection to the building. We were going to sit in it but the music was so loud that we changed our mind and sat in the main building.
In the photo below the colorful wall section on the right is made of pool balls glued to the wall.
Kathy had a blue cheese burger and cheddar fries and I had a Willy Burger and onion rings. The burgers were good, but not any better than those at Big Daddy's in Alabama. They were a LOT more expensive.

The place next door to Willy Burger looked interesting. So many restaurants and so little time to check them all out.

On our way back to the campground we did some grocery shopping and then came back to the motor home and stayed in for the remainder of the day. Today I think we are going to take a sightseeing trip along the coast, back into Louisiana.

May God bless you and yours.
