We were on our way to look at a tractor this morning. It was over 50 miles to the place. We were within 10 miles when he called to tell us he had just sold it. Guess the Lord has another one in mind for us.
We were going to Columbia to take back TV #2 anyway so it was not a wasted trip. On our way back we stopped at the Walmart in Jefferson City and bought TV #3. It was an Emerson, the first two were Magnavox's. When I started unpackaging it I realized that it was the same TV as the Magnavox's, it just had a different name on it. Sure enough, it didn't work either.
We have limitations on the size of TV that will fit in the bookcase/entertainment center. Some of the 39" class will fit, but most won't. I was down to two options, Sears or Best Buy. I didn't want to get one from Best Buy so I called Sears to verify that they had a certain model in stock. The guy said he would check and call me back. That was about 6 hours ago and he still hasn't called back. I ended up buying one from Best Buy. I told the salesman I had already returned 3 TV's in the past two weeks and asked him about their return policy. He told me I could return it for up to 30 days. I told him that I thought they used to charge a re-stocking fee. He was not aware of any such policy. THIS ONE WORKS!!!! PTL!!!
We bought a new grill while we were at Sam's this morning. I'm sure Kathy is chomping at the bit waiting for me to put it together. Tomorrows high is forecast to be 103. If I don't get it put together in the morning it ain't happening. Tuesday it is supposed to cool down to only 102.
Good night to all and may God bless you and yours.

July 28th - A Little Cooler
Last night it got down into the high 60's. I actually felt like going out and doing something. I worked outside until around 1:30. It was 88 when I came in. Below is a photo of our wood boiler and "woodshed". The boiler firebox can handle up to 30" long pieces of wood. The door opening is 14"x15". There is enough room for a lot of wood in the firebox.
Kathy and I moved the wood that was already split down to the wood shed. There is probably a face cord. Lengths vary from 15-22".
After moving the wood I mowed down the weeds. I'm abusing our Craftsman lawn tractor by using is to mow over some pretty tall weeds in the back. I sharpened the blades earlier this week but after the sticks and rocks I hit when mowing in the boonies I'm sure they need sharpened again.
We still have TV/Satellite problems. We went to the Sam's store in Columbia and exchanged our week old TV for another one. The replacement had the same problems so I called Chuck, the satellite installer. He came out today and tried a new satellite receiver. It didn't solve the problem. For some reason Dish Network receivers don't seem to work with this model Magnavox TV. I will box up the TV AGAIN in the morning and take it back to Sam's. The main reason we got the Magnavox was because they made a 39" screen that would just fit in the opening we have for a TV. We will end up with a 37" TV now and you can bet it won't be a Magnavox.
This trip to Columbia will be dual purpose. We will go on up past Columbia another 10 miles or so and look at a tractor. A guy up there had a late 50's International 350 with a loader, a 2 bottom mounted plow, a 6' rear blade, a post hole digger with two size auger and a 5' brush hog. He claims that it runs good but that he wants something smaller. This is bigger than I want but it seems like a good deal. Not sure how I will get everything 50 plus miles back here.
Lord it is great to have a good Internet connection. I just did another speed check, 7.71 Mbps downstream & 0.75 Mbps upstream. The other times I've checked speeds have shown similar results.
Time to get to bed. Not sure if we are going to church tomorrow. If we don't I need to get out and get some more work done in the morning. It is supposed to get down to 69 tonight. At 9:30 it is still 83. Today's high was only 95. Tomorrow though Thursday the forecast highs are 99-101.
Good night to all and may God bless you and yours.

July 21st - Junk Appliances
I've already posted about our new HD Magnavox TV that doesn't work correctly (it is going back to the store Monday or Tuesday).
We bought a new microwave weeks ago. I finally unpacked it a few days ago and, even though the box was seemingly intact the back corner of the microwave was bent in close to a quarter inch. It is an under cabinet mount so no one can see the dented area. Also it seems to work fine. Rather than go through the hassle of dealing with taking it back I straightened it out the best I could and installed it.
Yesterday Sears delivered our new Whirlpool refrigerator and range. The delivery guys hooked the water up to the refrigerator (no big deal since water was already piped to the area behind the refrigerator) and plugged it in. It has now been over 30 hours and we have yet to get the first ice cube out of the ice maker. The manual says it takes 24 hours to get the first batch of ice and that full ice production doesn't start for 72 hours. We will see.
The manual for the range was not in the oven, where I thought they would be. I hooked it up to the propane line, that was already piped to behind the range. I checked my work for leaks and was ready to start it up when I thought, "better double check that this is set up for propane, not natural gas." I found out that even though we said we wanted a range for propane they sold us one that was for natural gas, maybe they are all that way now. I found the manuals, and a kit to covert to propane, in the storage drawer under the oven. I spent FOUR STINKING HOURS getting to and changing the 5 orifices for the burners (not to bad a job, if you have a skinny 7 mm socket), the orifice for the bake part of the oven and the orifice for the broil part of the oven. I gave up trying to get the propane "bake" orifice screwed in place. It was on an angle in a hole at the back of the oven. It was only accessible after I took the bottom out of the oven, not big task, just more work. Kathy was able to get her smaller hands down in the hole and get it started.
It seems that all you can buy today is junk! I did do some research on TV's and the model we bought was highly rated by others who had purchased it. Kathy made the decisions on the appliances. I can't believe that a manufacturer of ranges would not sell ranges already set up for both propane and other ones set up for natural gas. I guess that rather than spent the extra nickel it might cost them to provide both models they would rather take a chance that some stupid customer, like me, would come along and not ask if the stove he was buying to use on propane was already set up to run on propane. It is about like buying a new car and then finding out that you have to mount the tires before you can drive it away.
I'm not sure but I think yesterday broke our string of days with high temps at, or above 90 degrees. Today's high was 94. Sunday through Thursday every day is supposed to be above 100 degrees. When we were at Andy & Kelsey's tonight I told them I would give them 100 acres in Tennessee if they would move and live there.
I have been watching the difference between Crossville, TN and Centertown, MO over the past 6 weeks. Crossville is always cooler than Centertown, typically 7-15 degrees cooler, even though Crossville is around 200 miles further south and Centertown. I don't know if it is the elevation, Crossville is over a thousand feet higher that Centertown, or just weather patterns.
Doug is here helping Kelsey and Andy installed tile above their kitchen cabinets. Actually they are helping Doug, but they are all working hard. The kitchen is really looking good.
Good night to all and may God bless you and yours.

July 17th - 25 Days Above 90
The weather guy just said that with our 100 degree day today we are now at 25 consecutive days with highs above 90 degrees. That puts this year in 4th place. The longest stretch was in 1915 when they had 33 consecutive days above 90. Tomorrow the high will be over 100 degrees. The weather guy said it looks like we will break the previous 33 day record. At 10:30 PM the heat index is 87.
Today we went to Columbia and bought a new TV at Sam's. We have officially entered the digital age. It is our first flat screen, our first digital TV and the largest screen (39") that we have ever owned. Tomorrow the Dish Network guy is supposed to hook up satellite TV for us, another first. Actually it isn't totally a first. For several of the years we lived in Lebanon, Indiana we had a big "C" band dish. When it quit working we went back to whatever we could get off an antenna.
For lunch we went to the HuHot Mongolian Grill. It is Andy's , our grandson-in-law, favorite restaurant. It was interesting. They have buffet lines where you pick out all the raw ingredients for your stir fry meal. One buffet line is nothing but sauces.
Once you have your ingredients you hand them to one of the Chefs and he dumps them on this grill. They had as many as three guys working this grill while we were there. After cooking he puts what you gave him on a fresh plate and hands it back to you. I think you would have to go there quite a few times to find out what you liked best, especially with all the sauce choices.
On Friday our refrigerator and range are supposed to be delivered. At that point we may move out of the motor home and into our house.
On Monday the phone guy is supposed to be here and hook up our Internet connection. We are not getting a "landline", I'm to cheap. We will use our cell phones.
Good night to all and may God bless you and yours.

July 13th - Back in Missouri
We made the rounds visiting relatives and friends in Indiana, Michigan & Tennessee and we are now back in Missouri.
We had some issues with the truck we rented but nothing that caused to much of a problem. Tom, Kathy's brother, helped us load things in Tennessee, which helped a lot.
Our handgun training course went well last Saturday. Both of us easily passed. On Monday we applied for our Tennessee permits to carry a handgun. We plan on staying Tennessee residents as long as possible since the taxes are so much less there. The Tennessee permit is good in 43 (I think) states.
After applying for the permits we picked up the rental truck and car carrier trailer and then loaded the stuff we stored in Tennessee. We rented a car carrier and hauled the car back on it. The cost of the carrier was about the same as the cost of fuel to drive the car. Hauling the car allowed us to both be in the truck and split the driving duties. Monday was a looooong day. Tuesday we drove back to Missouri, about 600 miles. Wednesday we unloaded. Kathy and I managed to get all but two pieces unloaded. Andy, our grandson-in-law, came over and helped with the last two pieces. We were POOPED by Wednesday night.
Yesterday we took the rental truck back, had lunch in Jefferson City and then went to the Amish grocery store, with Kelsey and Lydia, located about 10 miles from Kelsey's.
After that it was home for some rest.
When we arrived back here on Tuesday night the air conditioning in the house had quit. Fortunately we are still living in the motor home. We are taking showers in the house and it was pretty warm, hard to stay cool after a shower when the temperatures is in the mid-high 80's. The service man came out Wednesday afternoon and repaired the unit. With our home warranty the repair cost us $75.
Today Kathy is checking out rummage sales, I haven't even left the motor home yet. I've got a few things I have to do today but don't plan on doing a lot yet. That may be a mistake since the high temps are now only in the mid 90's, a cold snap for here. The highs for Sunday-Thursday are all either 98 or 99. Guess I should be thankful that the highs are still all not over 100 degrees like they have been.
Better get out and get things done.
Good day to all and may God bless you and yours.

July 7th - Shooting Range
Yesterday Tom and I cut down a dead tree, about 15" diameter at the base by 60' tall. It was close to Wendy's house. Actually Tom cut it down, I stood far back and gave him instructions on how to do it so that the tree didn't fall on Wendy's house <grin>. We cut the bottom part into three 10-12' sections. Tom used one of his tractors to pull the sections up near his wood pile. The rest of it was to far out into the woods to reach with the tractor and chain we had with us. The remaining sections are small enough that they can be dragged to the edge of the woods by hand, but by the time we got the other sections out we were to tired and hot to do it.
After a break we fired up Tom's wood splitter and split a nice pile of wood. We worked until mid-day, with lots of breaks for cool down periods.
Merv took all of us out for dinner last night. The photo below includes Kathy, Lillian (Merv's "girlfriend") and Merv. After dinner we went over to Lillians for awhile.
Today Kathy and I attended an eight hour handgun training course. Five hours in the classroom and then three more hours at the range. We took a 30 question test on the classroom section and had to fire 48 rounds each at the range. We both passed easily. Monday we will go apply for our Tennessee permit to carry a handgun (concealed or exposed). Below is Kathy drawing a bead on the target. She did great! It was the first time she had ever shot a gun. The guy in the black hat was our instructor. We fired rounds from three different distances.
There were 22 people in the class, 14 guys and 8 women. Many of the women were almost as new at it as Kathy. She did better than all the other inexperienced women as well as several of the guys. One of the gals was really good, better than almost all the guys. The elderly gentleman who is sitting down in the photo above was so shaky that the instructor let him shoot while sitting down.
I think that there is at least one other place in the Crossville area that does the classes. I was surprised to see how many people were in this class. This place has classes on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. While I was talking to the instructors son he told me that almost all the classes are full.
It was hot and a little humid but I think we both enjoyed ourselves.

July 5th - At Tom & Mary Lou's
We have certainly been enjoying our few days here at Tom & Mary Lou's, in Tennessee. We had the bedroom window open last night. It was awesome sleeping weather, the temperature dropped down into the mid 60's.
This morning we were out on the porch with them visiting, drinking coffee, looking at the lake and watching the hummingbirds. They have a feeder on the front porch and there are as many as 10 hummingbirds at the feeder, at one time. I don't think there is any time when there isn't at least one or two.
Yesterday Kathy helped Mary Lou in the garden for an hour or so and then then went swimming. Tom, Merv (Tom & Kathy's Dad) & I went to Crossville and ran a few errands. We went over and took down a couple of small canopy shelters that had been used for a church function over the weekend.
In the afternoon Kathy & I went to Cookeville, an hours drive, to go to the Social Security office. Our Medicare kicks in the 1st of August and we had to straighten out some billing issues with them. I think every thing went fine, but won't know for sure for another month or so.
This morning I'm going to split wood until it gets hot. Not sure what we will do in the afternoon. I think the high here is supposed to be in the low 90's today.
Good day to all and may God bless you and yours.

July 4th - Happy Independence Day!
I can say Happy Independence Day but if the current administration has its way we soon won't have any independence left. They enforce only the laws they choose (and rub our noses in it by giving amnesty to nearly a million illegal aliens) and now the liberal whacko justices on the Supreme Court has given the federal government the power to tell us what products we have to buy and when we have to buy them.
OK enough of my political rantings. I do urge all of you to be sure you are registered, and that you actually vote, in the upcoming election. You have to choose who you think will do the least damage to the nation over the next 4 years.
Yesterday’s travels were uneventful. We had an enjoyable time visiting with family. We spent time at Mom’s, Coldwater Lake, Michigan; had a late lunch at Auntie V’s (Auntie V is our niece Vickie), in Angola, Indiana; and then went to Vicki’s home on Lake Gage, near Orland, Indiana. We were able to see lots of family.
We, including Kathy’s Dad, are now on the road again, headed
south. We are currently a few miles south of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Today’s drive will be a little over 500 miles before we arrive at Tom
and Mary Lou’s, near Crossville, Tennessee.

We stayed overnight at Vicki’s. Her home is beautiful. I took the photo below while out on her dock this morning.
I took this photo of Lake Gage while standing on Vicki's front porch.
The weather is still hot, a high temperature of 98 is
forecast for northern Indiana. It is only supposed to be 90 degrees in
Crossville, Tennessee. We may need our coats <GRIN>.
Hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July. May
God bless you and yours. I better get this sent while I have a decent cell phone signal.

July 2nd - In Indy
We left home at 8AM (CDT) and arrived at Doug & Anthony's, in Indianapolis, IN; a little before 4PM (EDT). Not bad time, the trip is about 400 miles. It took us 7 hours which includes stops for lunch and another stop for gas.
Kathy went to have dinner with a couple of friends from Teen Challenge while the guys and I went to La Parada, a local Mexican restaurant. Everyone was happy with their food.
The guys and I went over to friends of theirs to look at a 2nd story deck area. The deck needs to be stiffened up. Doug already had some thoughts and between us we came up with another alternate.
In the morning we will head for my Mom's, near Coldwater, Michigan.
Good night to all and may God bless you and yours.
