Jan 16th - Cool

Depending on which thermometer you believe we may have had our coldest night of the year last night. About 7:30 AM the thermometer on our front porch said it was 10 degrees. The official overnight low was 15. Usually there isn't that much difference between our front porch thermometer and the "official" one. It is supposed to warm up for the next couple of days. Lows are supposed to be 25 tonight and then 24, 32, 22 & 18 for the next several nights.

After a week or so I finally put up the $35 medicine cabinet we got at the Habitat Re-Store. None of the bathrooms in this house had a medicine cabinet. This is in the master bath. There was a 3'x4' mirror above the sink. The dark border around the medicine cabinet was under the mirror and needs to be painted to match the remainder of the wall, or the entire wall/bathroom needs to be repainted.

Yesterday morning I went out and split a bucket full of wood. A bucket full of  the junk wood will do two morning fills, and last until time to fill the boiler again in the evening. The tree branches were still icy. They made a pretty sight with the sun reflecting through the ice. We didn't get enough ice to be a bother to us. Our vehicles had a fair amount on them, but that wasn't a problem. We haven't started either one since Saturday. I think both are now almost ice free.

Almost an angel. Lydia napping on Kathy's lap yesterday evening. She took a long nap after after lunch but played hard all afternoon.

I think I will go out and split another one or two buckets of junk wood today. I'm still working on getting as much as possible of the junk wood burned before winter ends. It doesn't have enough BTU value to hold a fire overnight when it is cold, so I've only been burning it during the day. With the warmer weather that we are supposed to have the next couple of days I might try at least a 50/50 mix of good/junk wood overnight.

Hope you all have/had a great day. May God bless you and yours.
