It started drizzling rain around 3AM, the temperature was just above freezing. By 8:30AM, when we left, the temperature had dropped to 26 degrees and there was a thin coating of ice on all elevated surfaces. I filled up first before we hit the Interstate the morning. The only stations available were big name truck stops.
We opted to travel on I55 assuming that it would have had more salt applied to it, of course with the continuous drizzle I don't know how much good the salt did. It surprised us that we saw no accidents. Roads were wet, but not icy. We took our time, probably didn't drive over 55 mph for the first 60 miles.
Kathy took the photo below as we headed down I55. Note the ice build up on the antenna.
After we got off I55 we stopped in a church parking lot and had lunch in the camper. I paid $3.63/gal, what a rip off. Our 2nd fill up of the day was in rural Mississippi, $3.05/gal.
We arrived at Maynor Creek Water Park a little after 4PM. 316 miles today for a two day total of 674 miles. Lots of water all around, we are parked at the blue dot.
Parked at Maynor. This is a BIG place.
Standing in the road looking at the water.
It was 61 degrees when we arrived. By 8AM tomorrow the temperature is supposed to be 27 degrees.
Kathy called to see if a site was available when we were about 40 miles from the campground. She specifically told them that we did not want to unhook since we were just spending the night. It is a nice campground, but not for an overnight stay. None of the sites I saw looked level. To get the camper level side to side I had to put 2.25" of blocks under the wheels on the door side. to get it even remotely level front to back I had to unhook and extend the tongue jack and raise the front 6" above the hitch ball. By then I didn't even have enough blocks to go under the jacks. For $24.75/night, FHU, I guess I can't expect perfection. It I was going to stay here for a week, and knew that I needed to bring a LOT of blocking, it wouldn't be a problem.
I didn't sleep a lot Tuesday night and didn't sleep much last night. Hopefully I will get a good nights sleep tonight. Tomorrow it is 130 miles more until we are at Rainbow Plantation.
After these two long mileage days, long mileage for us old people, we are really missing our Class A. We missed it during our fall trip and this trip amplifies the want. We may be ready to start shopping for another one to make travelling easier. It was so nice to be able to pull into a rest area, or a Wal-Mart parking lot, fire up the generator (if we needed AC) and have a meal, or even spend the night. It was so nice to be able to fire up the generator while travelling down the road and make a pot of coffee, or use the microwave, etc. I'm reasonably certain that we could do at extra 100 miles a day in a Class A, we used to do 500/day when our goal was just to get from point A to point B.
God is good. I pray that He blesses you and yours.
