Yesterday evening we walked up to the amphitheater, maybe a quarter mile, to listen the 9:00 Ranger talk on the area. The most important thing she said was, "I hope you all brought flashlights. The rattlesnakes like to crawl up on the warm asphalt walkway in the dark." We haven't seen any snakes.
This morning I walked up to the visitors center and spent about 45 minutes looking at the exhibits. I walked back to the lodge/restaurant and Kathy met me there for lunch.
We both had Indian Tacos. What a way to waste a good piece of fry bread. They spread about a thimble full of refried beans on the bread. I think mine mine may have also had one for two crumbles of hamburger on it. It was topped with a little lettuce and tomato and a few black olives (I never would have known that Plains Indians ate black olives if I had not had an Indian Taco). And all that for only $9. The bread was good, the rest was a joke. What a rip off.
One one of the back roads in the park this big horn sheep just stood grazing by the side of the road while we drove up to it.
Kathy at the "door" into the badlands. This trail went between two large formations, it was kind of like a door.
At this point we were at least a quarter mile out into the badlands. Not all that far but it would have been very difficult to find our way back had there not been yellow posts set along the way. I took the following photos as I turned in a circle. You should be able to match the peaks in the background.
Kathy did a great video while turning around 360 degrees but the file is to large to email and I can't figure out how to get it off her phone.
We had a great day. Unfortunately my phone signal was so poor last night that I couldn't even upload one of the above photos.
May God bless you and yours.
