Mar 2nd - Cookies and the Park

After I posted last night Drew texted us to say that he was testing his newly repaired oven by baking chocolate chip cookies. He told us to come over at 8:45 to try the first batch. He texted some of his other friends also. Collin and Stephanie came over to eat cookies. We had not met them before.

We had thought about going to SF's botanical garden today but Kathy decided that she wanted to help with the food pantry at the storefront church down the street.

I went to the Farmer's Market, mostly just to see who would be providing music at the center of the market. Today it was a white guy in his 50's, playing a regular guitar. The guitar was "mic'd" so that everyone could hear. He was good. No singing, just plain ole guitar playing. I recognized some 60's songs but did not recognize the blues/jazz music that he played. Even though I didn't know the songs I sure enjoyed them.

After the farmers market I went to Shoreline Park. It is right in the middle of hundreds of cranes for unloading containers from ships, and likely a thousand trucks picking up and dropping off containers.

On the right side of the photo below you can see a few of the cranes. More centered in the photo is the San Francisco skyline. The "water" up next to the shore is actually a tidal mud flat. When the tide comes in it fills with sea water, when the tide leaves many of them then have some fresh water the comes down a river. I walked over to the other side of the water and out on a fishing pier. It was a mile over there.

Nice to see flower along the way.
The bees liked these blue flowers.
Below you see one of the cranes that was off in the distance in an earlier photo. Note the "tower" in the distance, between the cranes.
I zoomed in on the tower. The crane on it is not a small crane. The structure is falsework around the center pier for the new bridge from Oakland to Treasure Island.
The pier shown below is for  fishing. There is a large hole in the center of the pier so that people can either fish around the outside or through the hole in the center. The Oakland skyline is in the background.
The weather was beautiful. I need to go back another day and explore down to the south. Today I only walked north.

Good night to all. May God bless you and yours.
