When I look at the temperatures in MO I can't really say it is hot here, but it is uncomfortably warm & humid. The heat index was at least 90 here today but it was 100 in MO. YUCK!!!!
Friday I put up a few sheets of drywall on the west bedroom wall. I want to leave the area around the electrical panel open until I run a line outside to feed the storage building I want to build.
I also started putting knobs on the kitchen cabinets. I put them on all 6 cabinet doors but the screws/bolts that came with the knobs were to short for the drawer fronts.
This morning I had breakfast at Kali's Kitchen in Crossville. 2 eggs, hash browns, 2 sausage patties & toast $4.25, coffee was another $1.25. Three good breakfast restaurants, with great prices, here and not one in Centertown or Jefferson City.
After breakfast I went to the hardware and got some machine bolts for the knobs/drawers and then went to the flea market. I forgot to bring any kind of hat with me so that was the reason for the trip to the flea market. Found an acceptable hat plus several other "tool type" items I couldn't live with out. Spent less than $20. Then it was on to the bank to get some cash, to the grocery store to pick up a few things and then home. I was back home about 11 AM. I didn't do much in the afternoon, except take a nice nap.
It was a nice day. May God bless you and yours.

Thur June 23rd - Hot & Humid
The only way I know it was hot & humid out is because I went out to see if I had any mail. That was the only time I even stuck my head out the door. High was around 87 with a heat index probably a little over 90.
All I did today was put the drywall up on the closet wall of the bedroom.
If I feel energetic tomorrow I may tackle another of the bedroom walls. The door in the closet is just stored in there. It will be the bedroom door eventually. I don't know it I will put bifolds or sliders on the closet.
May God bless you and yours.

Wed, June 22nd - Warmed Up in TN
It got downright toasty here today. The high was around 86. Heat Index was probably 90.
I mentioned that Tom & I went for breakfast yesterday but I forgot to include a photo of my fine breakfast. (Don't know why this loaded sideways.) The meal was $5.75, didn't pay attention to the price of the coffee.
This morning I did some more weed eating. It only took about a half hour to finish what I wanted to get done today. By the time I quit the temperature was 79 degrees and that was to hot for me to work outside if I didn't have to.
After lunch, and doing some research for a Letter to the Editor, I put up a couple of sheets of drywall in the bedroom.
Before
After
I haven't tried to count them but I think I still need to put up 15-20 sheets before I'm done. I'm in no real hurry, there is always tomorrow.
May God bless you and yours.

Tuesday June 21st - Easy Day
Yesterday I ran 2 tanks of gas through the weed eater/brush cutter I think about 2 more tank fulls will be required to do the rest of what I want do do while here. Each tank full lasts for nearly an hour. The 2nd tank full almost outlasted me :-)
This is our side yard, Lots of wildflowers at the edge of the woods.
I rode to town this AM with Tom. We had breakfast in town and ran some errands. All I did this afternoon was work on the radio in my truck. I replaced the one that was in it, the one with the built-in GPS, with the original radio that included a 6 CD player. I found out why a previous owner had replaced the original, the CD player didn't work. I switched them back.
We had some rain today, but not much.
May God bless you and yours.

Saturday, June 18th - In Tennessee
Todays trip to TN went fine. I went a different way, for a change of scenery. I crossed the Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau instead of at St. Louis, for a change of scenery. Going the way I went to day is the same mileage but it.takes longer.
Everything is good at the cabin. Tom had turned the AC down and turned the hot water heater on so it was cool inside and I had hot water when I arrived. It looked like he must have mowed the lawn this morning. The grass is nice and green, not all dried up like it is back in Missouri.
Kathy mowed some of the lawn in Missouri yesterday. It was her first time using our new zero turn mower. She did great.
May God bless you and yours.

Friday, June 17th - Still HOT
Another day with a high temp of 90 or above. I'm not sure how many this makes in a row, but its to many. I'm not doing much in this heat, at least that's my excuse :-)
We paid some of the price form my many years of gluttony today. I picked up a 90 day supply of insulin (Levemir). It cost us $1482, that is 50% of the actual cost. I don't mention this to complain, We are fortunate that we have the resources that we can afford it. I mention it to warn any younger people who read this, and who enjoy eating as much as I have over the years, that there is probably a day of reckoning in your future.
I've got my traveling tools in my truck. In the morning I am heading for our place in TN. Its been far to long since I've been there. Kathy might come to TN for the 4th.
May God bless you and yours.

Tuesday June 14th - Still HOT
Monday - Nolan came for the day. That pretty much kept Kathy busy. I went to California to get a haircut from my $8 barber. There were 5 waiting when I got there but that is one of the few places I don't mind waiting. Listening to Chuck, the barber, talk to the guys whose hair he is cutting is interesting. In the afternoon I took Kathy's van to Jeff and had the oil changed. It takes a 0W20 oil and at the places I've looked it is so expensive that it isn't worth changing it myself. Kelsey got off early and after Nolan left we went up and got the rest of the fryer stuff from the church.
Fun with Nolan. (I hope you can view this video. I couldn't get it to play but I'm having some problems with my internet connection.)
Tuesday - Kathy, Kelsey & Nolan went to the Amish grocery stores. Kathy said they got some good buys. I put up some hooks on the porch, for hanging baskets. While I was doing it Mel called to see what I was doing. I met him up at the Joshua House. I worked 6 hours putting up drywall in the stairway. I'm REALLY slow anyway and this was really a pain. Not one full sheet. Mel helped with a couple of the larger sheets but spent most of the rest of the time taping what we had done previously. I'm done up there but Mel has some more mudding to do.
It was over 90 both yesterday and today. The first day with a forecast high less than 90 degrees is a week from Wed. It is not a dry heat. Nasty! Praise God for AC.
God is good.

Sunday June 12 - Fish Fry
Another hot day in MO. I think the high was 95. It cooled clear down to 94 (heat index 96) by the time they started cooking fish.
Kathy cooked both catfish and cod while Carl cooked some chicken for the few people who didn't like fish. We didn't do a head count but I think there were about 40 people there to eat. That is a decent turn out for us, especially for as hot as it was. It is air conditioned in the basement, where we eat, but I'm sure some folks just didn't want to get out into the heat. It was a good time of fellowship.
Highs are supposed to be above 90 every day in the 10 day forecast. It is supposed to be 99 on Wed & 98 on Thur. I sure hope this isn't an indication that this summer is going to be as stinking hot as it was in 2012, the first summer we were in MO. It was 106 on June 28, 2012. Starting in June we had a 40-45 day stretch where the high was over 90 degrees every day, except for only a couple of days.
I hope you also had a great day. God is good.

Thursday June 9th - HOT!!!
Doug & Anthony saying goodbye to Nolan before heading back to Indy.
I had breakfast with the guys (Men's Fellowship & Bible Study) yesterday and didn't do much the rest of the day. Kathy, Kelsey, Lydia & Nolan went to St. Louis. They intended on going to the zoo but even the overflow parking area was full so they went to Grant Farm instead. Kathy said it was an enjoyable experience.
Kathy had Nolan today. I went to Jeff in the AM and helped Mel Calahan with the Baptist Builders project at the Joshua House.
After having some lunch at home I went up and sprayed more weeds at the church. So far I've put 9 gallons of weed killer on them.
I think todays high was 92. It is supposed to be above 90 every day through & including next Wed.
This evening we went down to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, about 20 miles south of us, where Mel did a presentation on the upcoming Baptist Builders work week at a church in Fulton, MO. The local Baptist Builders group is supposed to be in Fulton July 10-15 to work on a project. I'm thinking strongly about participating but am worried about the heat. The building we would be working on is enclosed but there is no ventilating or cooling system yet. They have full hook ups for RV's and if I decide to go help I will take the trailer so that I can go out and get in the AC if I feel the need.
Kathy came in the house yesterday evening and asked me to come out and look at the back window in our travel trailer.
The only thing we can figure is that when I mowed that last time the mower must have thrown a rock into the window. The last time I mowed was early this week. I must have walked by the trailer 10 times since I mowed and never noticed it being broken. In any case it must be replaced. Mark's Mobile Glass is supposed to come out from Jeff tomorrow to measure the window and give us an estimate.
God is good. May he bless you and yours as richly as he has blessed me.

Sunday 5th - Lydia'a Birthday Party
This afternoon was Lydia's, our great-granddaughter, birthday party. She turns 4 on June 7th.
She was happy all day. I'm not sure why she looks so sad in the photo below.
Kids taking a drive. Lydia's new trampoline is at the top left of the photo.
Grammy & Nolan
Assembling the Lego dollhouse.
Adults spent a lot of time shooting her toy bow.
Kelsey's "new" dining room table. She and Andy refinished and painted it. The top is parkay.

Friday, June 3rd, AM - Cherry Picking
Kathy has picked several gallons of cherries already. These are the little sour cherries, not the big sweet ones. It takes a LOT of cherries to make a gallon. I helped a little this morning. Below is our morning picking. We quit because our containers were full. We probably could have picked another quart.
Things I forgot to mention earlier:
The guy I bought my GMC truck from lives in Alaska but has a vacation (future retirement?) home in Texas. The guy he bought the truck from seemed to be someone who kept, and kept track of, everything. One of the disappointments with my truck was that it had come with a Bose 6 CD changer radio but a previous owner had "upgraded" it to a GMC radio with a navigation system. The replacement radio could only hold one CD. An 11 year old navigation system is not high on my priority list of wants, especially when I have a 2 year old Garmin GPS for use with RV's. I emailed Dave, the guy I bought the truck from, and asked if he knew what had happened to the original radio and if he had another set of keys somewhere. He was in Texas over Memorial Day weekend and emailed me telling me he found the radio and and extra set of keys. He wanted to know if I still wanted them. I told him yes and asked him to send him to me. Told him to tell me what he wanted for them and that I would send him a check. He didn't want any money. Yesterday I received the radio, another set of keys for the truck, some extra keys for the travel trailer and a chip programmer for the truck. Now I need to change, or have it changed, the radio.
Last Wed we had our propane tank filled because the summer fill price was so low, $095,9/gallon. This is by far the cheapest we have paid for propane in MANY years. Thank you to all the frackers! The last time we had it filled was last summer 2014, almost 2 years ago. The winter of 2014/15 we spent in the south, except for 2 weeks when we came back to MO in January. We left the heat set on 50 while we were gone. The heat pump would have taken care of most of the heating needs while we were gone. Last winter we were home but I fired up the Hardy wood boiler and we burned wood for most of our heat. We do have a gas range and a gas dryer that gets a fair amount of use. It took 144.7 gallons of propane to fill our tank. Even with some use of the heat pump our electric bills have been very reasonable. Thank you Jesus! Blessing abound!
Wed afternoon our 2 year old AC system was not keeping the house cool. About 1 PM I called the company where we bought the system and told them I needed a serviceman to come out. Mike, our serviceman, called back in an hour or so and was very apologetic because he could not get here before 6 PM. I told him it was not a problem. After the call I started thinking about how long it had been since I changed the furnace filter. It had been 6 months and it was FILTHY. (In part due to our ongoing bathroom construction project.) I changed the filter and called Mike to tell him to call before he came, in case the increased air flow allowed by the new filter solved the problem. He told me that if the filter was as bad as I said the coil had probably frozen and that I should turn the AC off for a couple of hours while letting the fan run to melt the ice on the coil. After a couple of hours of just the fan running I turned the AC back on. It was 77 degrees in the house when I turned it back on at 9:30 and by midnight the temp had dropped to 72 degrees, where we had the thermostat set. Once again Thank You Lord. Having the thought about the filter saved us the cost of a service call. When I bought the filter I bought 2. You can bet I will remember to change it again well before 6 months.
Doug is off to pick up some plumbing parts we need and Kathy is getting ready to head over the Kelsey's to help her plant some flowers.

Thursday 6/2 - Bathroom Work Started Again
Wed - I had breakfast with our men's fellowship group. After breakfast I ran some errands while in Jefferson City. On my way home I went to the home of our Pastor and his wife, to look at their mower. They mow a little over an acre. I think Carolyn does most of the mowing and she asked that someone try and figure out why their mower was "digging in" on one side. She had hit something and bent one of the blades. I took the blades off and she said she would have her son-in-law put the new ones back on. He farms and is really busy right now and she didn't want to have him spend a lot of time trying to diagnose the problem. I tried to get her to call me when she had the new blades but she didn't think he would mind taking a few minutes to put them on. Doug came in the afternoon.
Thur - We finished cutting and laying the cement board for the floor, set the tub to determine where the drain cut out needed to be, finished installing all but 2 small pieces of drywall. Doug started taping the ceiling. Kelsey and Nolan came over for a visit in the AM and then all of them came back for supper. Kelsey started the old rototiller that had not run for a year (it must be 15 years old) and tilled her garden. Kathy & Kelsey bought a bunch of on sale plants at the little store down the street. Kelsey put some in her garden and Kathy planted some here.
Hopefully we will finish the water and drain lines for the tub tomorrow (I saw we, Doug is doing 90% of the work.)
May God bless you and yours.
